Welcome President Avant! The Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors (BPD) announces the appointment of Dr. Freddie L. Avant to the office of President. Dr. Avant has served one year as President-Elect of the Association and will continue as president for a term of two years. Dr. Avant succeeds Dr. Linda L. Moore who has served the association for the past two years.
Dr. Avant currently works as professor of social work and the director/ associate dean of the school of social work at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He has been a social work educator and practitioner for more than 20 years.
Dr. Avant received his bachelor’s degree from Lyon College in Batesville, AR, a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a PhD in social work from Jackson State University.
As President of BPD, Dr. Avant will lead the national organization that serves more than 450 accredited undergraduate social work programs. He will also represent the organization on various national committees and task forces, shaping the future of undergraduate social work education.
